- Hpe pushes Morpheus as vmware virtualization costs increase under Broadcom
- Pricing based on the socket provides cost predictability for high systems deployments
- Morpheus aims to compete, but VMware remains deeply rooted in the company
Hewlett Packard Enterprise sought to approach the growing rumors of its customers on the increase in VMware license costs after Broadcom acquisition of the virtualization company in 2023.
HPE actively responds to these concerns, in particular those who see significant increases in virtualization costs, by pushing its Morpheus platform during its recent HPE Discover 2025 event.
HPE acquired Morpheus in 2024 and has since worked to develop it in a viable option for companies seeking to reduce or end their dependence in VMware.
A choice of editions
Morpheus is integrated into the wider private cloud offers of HPE, with two editions available to meet different needs.
The VM Essentials edition is oriented towards smaller environments and supports the management of local KVM bunches and vmware clusters via VCenter.
This edition has a much lower entry cost, at the price of around $ 600 per socket, and unlike the license per heart of Broadcom, which, according to some, penalizes the scale, the HPE ball model remains fixed, regardless of the material configuration.
This could appeal to those who have high counting systems and help organizations better hold the infrastructure costs.
For more advanced deployments, there is Morphus Enterprise. This includes the profiling and cost calculator tools to compare cloud and on -site options. This version is at the price of around $ 2,500 per catch.
HPE’s objective seems to be to give customers a clearer path far from VMware, to start Petit and to lie down.
It remains to be seen if that is enough to make a breach in the deep entrenchment of VMware in corporate environments, but Hpe clearly makes the case.
Server Patrick Kennedy writes: “We know that many people have trouble with virtualization license costs. It seems that Hpe sees the need. It was actually treated to see that HPE is aggressively trying to do customers who are still looking for solutions, it could be once you are an HPE store. ”.
