- Half of companies struggle to recruit the right talent
- LinkedIn UK Jobs on the Rise list includes brand new and emerging roles
- Companies prepare to upskill their workers on AI and sustainability
LinkedIn has identified a worrying trend among HR professionals, who now say it’s harder than ever to find the right talent.
A new ‘UK Jobs on the Rise’ report from the online recruitment platform has revealed the time-consuming nature of candidate sourcing, with around one in four HR workers (23%) spending an average of three to five hours a day reviewing applications.
Additionally, two in five (42%) said even half of applicants didn’t meet all of the criteria listed, making the task unrewarding.
Finding job candidates is becoming more and more difficult
LinkedIn data revealed that two-fifths (41%) of candidates are applying to more roles than ever, but are receiving fewer responses than before. Today, more than half (54%) of job seekers and four in five (79%) HR workers say the hiring process has become more difficult.
The challenges have been amplified by changing skill demands across sectors, with the rise of AI-driven automation changing roles in the name of operational efficiency.
More than half (55%) of the roles on the UK Jobs on the Rise list didn’t even exist 25 years ago, and many new AI and sustainability roles are emerging.
As a result, half (49%) of HR professionals surveyed struggle to find the right people with the necessary technical skills.
This is not a story of lost hope, however, as two in three organizations (65%) intend to prioritize AI upskilling efforts, and a similar number (64%) will focus on sustainability.
Apart from the effects of AI on job opportunities, AI also plays a crucial role in the hiring process. Two in three HR professionals (67%) say AI makes it easier for them to find qualified candidates, with 45% calling for more technology to streamline the process.
“With work and recruitment changing so quickly – the skills needed for a job are expected to change by 70% by 2030 – businesses need to find a way to fill the gaps within their organisation,” commented Janine Chamberlin , LinkedIn UK Country Manager.
Chamberlin added that ultimately, a changing landscape presents “a very exciting opportunity for both OJB seekers and leaders to think differently about skills and stay competitive.”
