Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson made history at the 2025 Gotham Awards, and Jackman couldn’t help but throw a friendly jab at his longtime friend Ryan Reynolds in the process.
The couple received the first-ever musical tribute in Gotham on Monday, December 1, for their work in the upcoming musical film. Song sung in blue.
The ceremony took place at Cipriani Wall Street in New York, where the duo took the stage at Neil Diamond’s concert. Sweet Caroline. Hudson even sang the iconic “So good!” » as she began her speech.
Hudson spoke about working alongside Jackman and director Craig Brewer, saying that acting with both was “one of the great joys of my career.”
She also shared how much music has shaped her life, noting, “I don’t know where I would be without it.” »
Jackman accepted his share of the honor with a playful wink at Reynolds, joking that the award was “something that made Ryan Reynolds incredibly jealous.”
The two actors have had a mild rivalry for years, and Jackman didn’t miss the moment to add an extra shot.
He then highlighted what makes Song sung in blue meaningful to him, praising its message of “real people, real lives, real struggles, real love.”
He also made a bold prediction about his co-star’s performance, saying that Hudson is “not only one of the big stars in our industry, but she is an accomplished actress,” and even predicted that she would “win the Oscar” for the role.
Song sung in blue is written and directed by Brewer and arrives in theaters on Christmas Day.
The film also features Michael Imperioli, Ella Anderson, King Princess, Mustafa Shakir, Hudson Hensley, Fisher Stevens and Jim Belushi.
Gotham Film & Media Institute executive director Jeffrey Sharp previously praised the two leads, saying their performances in the film were “powerful, intimate, and deeply human.”
