Karachi:

Sindh’s main minister Sharjeel Inam Memon stressed that the Hyderabad-Sukkur motorway is not only vital for Sindh but has strategic importance for Pakistan’s overall trade and connectivity.

He stressed that the port of Karachi is the central import and export center of the country, and there is no more suitable road than the Hyderabad-Sukkur motorway to facilitate this movement.

In a statement published on Tuesday, Memon stressed that the Minister -in -Chief Murad Ali Shah repeatedly recalled the federal government of the emergency of this project, even by sending official letters.

“Recently, federal ministers have assured that the funds for the project would be included in the upcoming budget,” he said.

However, Memon said that the construction of the Hyderabad-Sukkur motorway is the responsibility of the federal government, not the Sindh government.

“We were told that this project would start soon and would be completed quickly. But with the amount that has been allocated, the project cannot start quickly, and it cannot be completed in time,” he added.

Calling the simple “token money” allowance, Memon said that the budgetary amount is completely inadequate for a project of such a scale.

“The major infrastructure projects of this nature require complete funding, not symbolic allowances,” he said. “These are generally multi -year projects, requiring at least 30 to 40% of the total budget during the first year, like other national projects.”

He criticized the federal government for the allowance of 15 billion rupees, saying that he does not reflect neither equity in the project nor the seriousness of national development.

“This allowance does not serve the interests of Pakistan,” he said.

Sharjeel Memon also expressed serious reservations on the budget allowances of the K-IV water supply project, declaring that the reserved funds were very insufficient.
