Strict measures planned against aerial shootings and street stunts as more than 1,200 police officers deployed across the city
HYDERABAD:
Authorities in Hyderabad have finalized comprehensive security arrangements ahead of the New Year celebrations to avoid incidents of aerial firing, street fights and reckless motorcycle stunts. More than 1,200 police officers have been deployed across the city, focusing on key intersections and main streets, while physical barriers such as barbed wire will secure critical areas.
SSP Hyderabad Adil Hussain Chandio said that anyone indulging in aerial firing will face charges of attempt to murder through strict legal action. Special surveillance measures, including gantries, metal detectors and CCTV cameras, have been put in place at churches, religious sites, shopping malls and sensitive locations.
DIG of Hyderabad region Tariq Razaq Dharejo has ordered all SSPs to provide foolproof security, maintain law and order and deploy plainclothes officers to keep a check on troublemakers. Citizens were also urged to celebrate responsibly and avoid illegal activities.
Unlike previous years, authorities have decided not to close markets and shops prematurely, but main roads and intersections will be cordoned off to avoid chaos. Last year, similar festivities left nine people injured due to aerial gunfire and fireworks.
