David Denman raised the lid on the hearing process for the role in which he finally landed Peacemaker Season 2.
Before the return of the HBO Max Show, I sat with Denman to find out if and / or when he knew what character he would play, and I talked about having the creative freedom to give life to someone who does not exist in DC comics. Despite the professions which confirm that Denman would appear in PeacemakerThe second season last June, his character revelation was strictly held under the Wraps until the first episode of the series was broadcast last night (August 21) or at night (August 22), depending on where you live.
“The links that Grind” finally revealed that the mysterious individual of Denman would play. In short: it’s Keith Smith, alias the brother of the anti-hero holder.
It is a revelation with a great twist. Indeed, the seventh episode of last season revealed that Chris accidentally killed Keith when they were children – Keith falling, hitting his head on a rock and having a life crisis after Chris struck him during the last fight that their father Auggie regularly puts to earn money.
However, one of the best second -year episodes of HBO Max takes place in two realities. The first, alias the universe of DC (DCU), is the one that Peacemaker“S Chris Smith is from. The second is a parallel universe on which a blacksmith stumbled via the quantum unfolding chamber (QUC). It is in this alternative dimension in which Keith and Auggie are not only alive, but alongside Chris Smith of this world, are famous heroes who operate as a group of justice league style known as the Top Trio.
For Denman, the opportunity to play a completely original creation – a written by a longtime friend and Co -chief of DC Studios James Gunn, nothing – is the one he called “incredibly exciting” during our cat. And, while Denman “had a feeling”, he would portray the older brother of Chris Smith, who is also preparing for the pseudonym of the Triumph superhero, in the project of the One Dcu chapter if he managed to win the role, he was not completely sure that his personal theory would be proven.
“I have been friends with James for 20 years,” said Denman. “I am also good friends with Steve Agee [who plays John Economos] – We made the film Burning [written and directed by Gunn] Together, and Freddit [Stroma, who plays Adrian Chase/Vigilante] did 1 p.m.: The secret soldiers of Benghazi A few years before that, so it was not as if I came completely cold [to this show’s cast].
“But, I did not know for whom I have a feeling. I had a feeling because of the dummy sides [excerpts of a script that aren’t used in the official production]But I was just getting two and two together.
“Once I knew [I’d got the part] And that Keith was not in the comics, it created freedom because you do not live in everything that came, “continued Denman.” I had to have certain things – I had to be as tall as John [Cena, who plays Chris Smith] And looks like the child who played Keith in the first season, but there was a lot of freedom to understand the character. James and I talked about who was this type, of his relationship with this alternative version of his father, and what it means to be a hero in this world to create this background.
“I also had to understand this camaraderie that Keith has with his father and Chris. Robert [Patrick, who plays Auggie] And John already had chemistry because they had already worked together, so I had to intervene and see how Keith integrated into this dynamic. James also creates a safety net so that we fail during the shooting because he wants us to ad-lib or he is busy rewriting the script, so that you can throw different things there, which was incredibly exciting. “”
