- All iPhone 17 models are based to get Samsung M14 OLED panels
- This could mean 120 Hz screens for standard models and more iPhone 17
- A new rendering of the iPhone 17 Pro Max always makes a dubious design switch
Apple iPhone 17 models could all use new Samsung M14 OLED screens, which have been the first time for years that all iPhones have used the same panel.
It is according to a prediction on the social media site of Chinese language Weibo (as reported by Gsmarena) which made the complaint but did not detail the source; After having covered such rumors for years, I would apply that it comes from someone in the iPhones supply chain.
Such a treat of information has little surprise, since Samsung Display has provided OLED panels for iPhones for years, and that the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are currently using M14 panels. But it is encouraging to hear that the new generation iPhone family could all use these OLED panels, and it could finally see the standard and more iPhone models go to a 120 Hz refreshment rate, rather than apple s’ Holding at 60 Hz, which seems positively archaic in 2025. That being said, the new OLED panels are not guaranteed to provide with them a higher cooling rate.
We must expect an increase in brightness for the screens of the iPhone 17 and 17 Plus with the M14 OLED screens, however, because they provided a 30% increase in PIC brightness for the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max.
And that’s about everything we have on this rumor of the iPhone 17, but there is more …
I’m not sure to buy that …
Then, we have a new rendering of the iPhone 17 Pro Max created by the 3D Asher Dipprey artist for a technological video on the front page – the YouTube channel managed by the Apple holder previously prolific Jon Prosser – which is supposed to be based On initiate information which may or may not have come from the holder in Majin BU series, whose history for precision are far from perfect.
Although we have already seen this design via FTP, Dippprey has rendered on a brighter background and stimulated the lighting to give us a better overview.
When put in good lighting, the iPhone 17 Pro Design suddenly seems … Pic.twitter.com/ftowkrd6vcFebruary 18, 2025
The rendering shows a rather normal iPhone 17 pro, perhaps with a slightly smaller dynamic island. But on the back, the phone has a huge rectangular camera module which mainly extends over the entire upper part of the phone; He looks a bit like Google Pixel 9 Pro-esque.
Now, unless I miss something, there is no logic behind such a change of design. There is no additional camera or anything that looks like new sensors. Say what you want on Apple’s design language, but the company rarely puts design modifications unless it is considered to be a particular advantage to the user or incorporate new features.
So I do not trust this rendering, nor on the information on which it is based. Until now, other rumors of the design of the iPhone 17 do not seem to save such a design change.
In the end, we have reached a point where radical changes are not likely to occur with many of the best phones. Although I am for the change, Apple and Samsung have established solid design languages with their phones and are not likely to change them beyond a few pinching and folds. And from the Pixel 6, Google has essentially followed suit.
Really, larger changes in the world of smartphones tend to occur with foldable phones, or in the hood in the form of more powerful chipsets and access to a multitude of AI tools and software. Less important telephone brands, at least in the United States, as Honor and Xiaomi can mix their creations, but in general, I don’t think we can expect major changes in most telephone brands, and above all No Apple.
So I don’t think this rendering of the iPhone 17 Pro Max is materializing. Instead, the most interesting aspects of the iPhone 17 family could be the way the standard model could suffocate in pros heels, and how Apple Intelligence could further immerse the iPhone experience.
