- Lenovo revealed the Yoga solar PC at the MWC 2025
- The back cover of the laptop has a very effective solar panel integrated, the one that can load the battery even in low light
- A bunch of other notebooks have been presented, including more yoga models and an ideapad
Lenovo revealed a group of new laptops at the MWC 2025, including a prototype of a solar yoga notebook, alongside a number of other yoga models and a new version of an Ideapad.
What attracts the most attention to the show, however, is that the Yoga solar PC which, as indicated, remains a concept of material, so it is not something that happens for production (at least not yet).
The laptop has a solar panel integrated into the cover that uses the technology of the rear contact cell, explains Lenovo, to obtain a high conversion rate of solar cells. The company claims a conversion rate of 24% of solar energy absorbed by the panel, which is towards the upper end of the solar industry efficiency scale at the moment (at least in the use of the real world).
Lenovo notes that the laptop uses a “dynamic solar monitoring” system which constantly monitors the current and voltage of the solar panel and “works with the solar energy system first to automatically adjust the charger parameters to prioritize the sending of the energy harvested to the system.”
In other words, you get the most strokes for the sun’s rays, and the panel is capable of collecting solar energy even in low light conditions, observes Lenovo. Thus, even outside a dull and cloudy day, the theory is that the Yoga solar PC can prevent its battery from exhausting – at least while the laptop slows down anyway.
We get only one concrete figure concerning the type of solar power which could be at the pressure here, namely that the panel can “absorb and convert enough direct sun to 20 minutes to supply up to an hour of video reading on the PC”.
Another more notable point with the Yoga solar PC is that it is a slim and light device, despite the inclusion of this solar panel, measuring 15 mm and weighing 1.22 kg – impressive.
Lenovo makes another game on the front of renewable energies with the solar energy kit for yoga, another proof of concept which is essentially an electricity bank which has a USB-C solar panel. This panel can be attached to your backpack or tent, when you are in nature, by picking up solar energy to change the battery of the bank and power your devices.
It is still early for these concepts, of course, but we hope that one day, a solar energy laptop will appear on our list of the best laptops – I do not see why it will not happen, it is just a matter of time.
Laptops in abundance yoga and some tempting choices for creatives
Still at the MWC 2025, Lenovo has revealed its Yoga Pro 9i edition offering a 16 -inch OLED screen with a resolution of 3.2K, and a technology in OLED tandem allows a high level of brightness (1600 nits) while maintaining power efficiency.
This is a very precise screen (‘PureSight Pro’) offering a 120 Hz refresh rate, and you can equip the pro yoga with a NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 GPU. The CPU is up to an Intel Core Ultra 9 285H, so it can be specified as a very powerful portable for creative types.
There will also be a Lenovo Yoga Pro 7i edition which presents itself in a 14 -inch shape factor rather than 16 inches, alongside a 14 -inch model of yoga pro 7 refreshed.
Lenovo had other models of exposed yoga, including the 7 14 -inch Slima Slima laptop, another laptop for creators with a 2.8k resolution OLED screen (and up to 22.5 hours of battery life).
Lenovo Yoga 7 2-in-1 hybrids were also presented in 16-inch and 14 inch flavors of these 360-degree convertibles. For more details on all these yoga models, see the coverage of Techradar Pro here.
A daily AI notebook with an ecological touch
Those who are looking for more than one everyday laptop will be interested in knowing more about the Lenovo Ideapad Slim 3X, a 15 -inch notebook that carries the slogan “AI for anyone”.
This is a Copilot + processor with a Snapdragon X processor (based on ARM) associated with a 60Whr battery for a lot of longevity far from a power outlet, and a fast charging function that only takes 15 minutes to give you two hours of battery. This kind of speed is always welcome in a pinch when you are about to leave the house and realize that your notebook is on a low battery.
Other notable attributes of the IDEAPAD Slim 3X include metallic coverage and durability evaluated at a MIL-STD-810H standard, and there is the possibility of a future expansion by adding a second SSD via a free slit. It is always good to see upgrade options with notebooks, because this is another (indirectly) user -friendly option to keep the device relevant and usable in the future in the future.
In Europe, most of these new laptops will emerge later this month, in March 2025, although the exceptions are the Yoga Pro 7 which does not arrive before April, and the Yoga Pro 9i will have edition which will not arrive before June 2025.
