Idris Elba was knighted in the New Year for his work for young people.
The 53-year-old actor, famous for playing DCI John Luther on the BBC. Lutherhas spent years fighting violence among young people and giving them better chances in life.
Idris launched Don’t Stop Your Future to help end knife crime, and also created the Elba Hope Foundation with his wife, Sabrina Dhowre Elba, which donates money to projects that support education, employment and personal growth.
The icon said: “I receive this honor on behalf of the many young people whose talent, ambition and resilience have motivated the work of the Elba Hope Foundation.”
He added that everyone has a responsibility to help young people escape violence.
