Thanks to PlayStation’s State of Play and the subsequent Silent Hill Transmission, we were finally able to dig a lot deeper into the upcoming game. Silent Hill: Fall of the city, and it looks totally awesome.
The aforementioned pair of showcases have debuted a brand new trailer for the upcoming survival horror game, set to launch in 2026. Following this, Transmission has launched into an informative and charming documentary about developer Screen Burn, its history, and the inspirations behind Fall of the city.
Screen Burn is a small developer based in Scotland, and that’s also where we find our framework for Silent Hill: Fall of the City; a sleepy little fishing village called Sainte-Amélie. As you’d expect, there’s no shortage of iconic use of fog in the series. But to be honest, it seems like any other Tuesday in the UK.
Look on it
I think what strikes me most right now Silent Hill: Fall of the City This is how Screen Burn seems to draw on real-life experiences to bring its frightening world to life.
“When Jon [McKellan, writer and director] showed me the game for the first time and I obviously saw this foggy, hazy Silent Hill environment, which was like a walk to school when I was a kid,” art director Paul Abbott said during the Transmission segment.
“Because I grew up in towns like this, in a little fishing village that’s a bit like St. Amelia. It’s a beautifully epic, gray, rainy environment, and we bring that into the game.”
Fall of the city also appears to make liberal use of medical themes and imagery. We see a dilapidated hospital, medical equipment attached to or protruding from monsters, and even protagonist Simon has an IV attached to his arm, as well as a patient bracelet.
Silent Hill and hospitals have gone hand in hand since the original 1999 film, but the medical themes seem to play a bigger role in Fall of the city narrative.
I’m really looking forward to playing the game, after enjoying the Silent Hill 2 redo and have Silent Hill to be my personal game of the year 2025. The series is, arguably, in the best place it’s been since the original quadrilogy, and I can’t wait to finally get my hands on it. Fall of the city.
