If there is no fuel savings, will the Balutchistan roads be built?: Shahid Khaqan Abbasi

AWAM Pakistan party officials and former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi criticized government decisions, calling into question the recent decision to link the development of baloutchistan to petroleum economies.

“If there is no oil savings, does that mean that the Balutchistan roads will not be built?” He asked.

Addressing a press conference in the federal capital, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has firmly criticized the government on two main national problems: the in -depth crisis of farmers and the lack of relief on oil products for the public.

Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said that farmers in Pakistan are currently undergoing serious difficulties and protesting nationally, but their grievances are not addressed.

“Farmers are growing wheat, which becomes the country’s flour. If the farmer is in distress, everyone will be touched,” he said.

He stressed that farmers also encountered difficulties in 2023 and, in 2024, the government announced that it would not buy wheat at Rs4,000 by 40 kg. Consequently, farmers were forced to sell at variable prices – some at Rs2,200 and others at Rs2 400 by 40 kg.

Shahid Khaqan Abbasi added that with a sharp increase in urea prices and electricity, farmers are now obliged to sell wheat to RS2 100 kg – despite the much higher production cost.

“When the farmer thrives, the country thrives. But today, farmers invest their assets and still cannot make a profit. ”

He warned that if the situation continues, Pakistan may have to import wheat next year. He demanded that if local markets are not favorable to farmers, they should at least be allowed to export their wheat.

“Today, it costs an RS3,000 farmer to produce a 40 kg wheat bag, but they are forced to sell it to Rs2 100. Do not sacrifice farmers for a few votes,” said Abbasi. “If their income does not increase, other sectors such as tractors and motorcycles will also be affected.”

He also criticized the incentive regime of the Punjab government, saying that there are only a few, while the majority of farmers remain private.

He called on the government to set a price for supporting fair wheat that benefits both the public and the agricultural community.

In the second half of the press conference, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi firmly criticized the government for having omitted to relieve petroleum products. He noted that world oil prices have dropped several times, but the government has failed to pass on these savings to the public.

“There was room for a reduction in RS10 of old billing calculations, but people have still received no relief,” he said.

Shahid Khaqan Abbasi asked why fuel prices are transmitted to consumers when international markets increase but not when they drop.

“We hear that the benefits of oil will be used to build roads in Balutchistan-but if there is no savings, will Balutchistan not get roads?” He asked.

He concluded by saying that national progress comes from positive government decisions, but this administration has once again missed the opportunity to relieve the public.

Previously, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced that instead of transmitting the relief of oil prices reduction on the international market to consumers, the government would use money saved for the reconstruction of the N-25 motorway and the completion of phase II of the Kachhi channel project in Balutchistan.

The Prime Minister made this announcement by presiding over the meeting of the federal cabinet, where he declared the transformation of the N-25, sadly known as the “deadly road”, into a car motorway.
