- A new rumor suggests that the Xiaomi 15 Ultra will sport a main camera with a 1 inch sensor and a 200MP telephoto zoom zoom
- On paper, these specifications beat competition from Samsung, Apple and Google
- The Xiaomi 15 Ultra should be launched on the world markets in early March
Xiaomi’s next high -end flagship phone could compete with the best camera phones, with a cutting edge of four high resolution cameras, if a new rumor turns out to be true.
According to the prognostician of Tiets, Yogesh Brar on X (formerly Twitter), the Xiaomi 15 Ultra will be equipped with a main camera of 50 Mp using the 1 inch Sony Lyt-900 sensor.
For reference, the main camera found on the iPhone 16 Pro uses a 1 /14 inch sensor, which is about 13% smaller than the LYT-900. The Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra and Google Pixel 9 Pro both have an even smaller 1/1.3 inch even smaller sensor.
The language of the camera, the sensor is the surface on which light is concentrated by the objective. A larger sensor means that more light can be captured, which allows better performance with low light, an improved dynamic range and less noise (or grain).
BRAR adds that the Xiaomi 15 Ultra also has an ultra-large camera of 50 Mp, a 50MP telephoto lens with a 3X optical zoom and a 200MP telephoto with an optical zoom of 4.3x.
On paper, it is an extremely impressive range of cameras, and I can already imagine that such a mixture of high resolution cameras with several zoom lengths will offer users a lot of versatility and flexibility for photography.
The 200MP Periscope camera jumps like an exciting addition to the highest phone in Xiaomi – the apparently generation of the Xiaomi 14 Ultra camera is a 50MP camera offering a 5x optical zoom.
A large sensor to go with all these megapixels
Although resolution alone is not a reliable quality indicator, BRAR notes that this Zoom 200MP camera uses the SAMSUNG HP9 sensor of 1/1.14 inch – it is the same size as the main camera of the iPhone 16 pro and even larger than the main sensor found on the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra and Google Pixel 9 Pro.
In theory, this combination of a large sensor and high resolution should offer optically zoomed images which are shiny, colorful and rich in detail.
Our Xiaomi 14 Ultra Review noted that the phone has “the best cameras of any phone, never”, and with improvements like those of rumors on the way, it seems that the Xiaomi 15 Ultra could continue this sequence of victories.
As Phonearena notes, the Xiaomi 15 Ultra should be revealed in China on February 26, with an official revelation during the MWC, which extends from March 4 to 6.
The only problem is availability: Xiaomi does not sell in the United States, period-this means that business phones are almost impossible to obtain in the United States (they are also unacceptable for our list of the best phones). That said, I’m sure the Xiaomi 15 Ultra will easily take a place on our list of the best Xiaomi phones.
