IGA Swiatek won his first cincinnati open title on Monday by beating Jasmine Paolini 7-5 6-4, the third seeded pole sending a powerful message before the US Open.
The winner of the Grand Chelem of the six times did not drop a set en route to the title and was clinical in the final, converting his six break points to win his 11th WTA 1000 crown and the first from the Italian Open from last year.
She is now the second winner of all time in the history of the WTA 1000 format, only taking up Serena Williams (23).
“I would like to thank my team. I don’t know why I won tournaments that were like the last in terms of where I was thinking of playing well,” said SwiTek.
“Thank you for forcing me to become a better player and learn to play on these faster surfaces. I am shocked and super happy.”
Paolini did the brighter start, going to a 3-0 lead and pushing Swiatek at the edge of a double break. However, the post responded with a five game race and, after wasting its first chance of serving the opening set, closed it during its second attempt.
Swiatek carried his momentum in the second set, saving two break points at 4-3 before holding firm to move in a title match. She sealed the victory at the first opportunity with a great service, extending her perfect record against the Italian to 6-0.
The victory guarantees that the Wimbledon Swiatek champion will return to the world number two, guaranteeing the second seed for the last major of the year to Flushing Meadows, where the action in Simple begins on Sunday.
Swiatek should also team up with Norwegian Ruud Casper in the new US Open Mixed Double event.
Earlier in the day, Carlos Alcaraz of Spain won the male title after the seeded Jannik Sinner retired in the first set.
