In a significant development, the High Court of Islamabad (IHC) was a wider bench to hear various pleadings deposited with regard to the law of the founder of the PTI, Imran Khan, to meet family members and party leaders at the Adiala de Rawalpindi prison, where the former Prime Minister is imprisoned.
The bench which will be led by the acting chief of the IHC, Muhammad Sarfraz Dogar, will include judge Arbab Muhammad Tahir and judge Muhammad Azam Khan. The largest bench will hear more than 20 pleas.
The development came while the acting chief of the IHC heard a petition deposited by the Superintendent of Adiala prison, Abdul Ghafoor Anjum, who complained of several pleadings concerning the rights of visit of Imran Khan and the contradictory judgments of the courts on said question.
“In the interest of legal consistency, it is imperative that all the related affairs listed […] Being consolidated before a single or larger bench to ensure uniform arbitration and effective application of judicial directives “, read the request of the prison manager while invoking operational difficulties and an uncertainty that he is confronted by the prison administration. The former Prime Minister, confronted with a plethora of legal affairs, has been detained in the prison of Adiala prison since September 2023.
However, his incarceration was not without controversy, because the former ruling party again complained about the authorities as well as alleged obstacles in the organization of meetings between the founder of the PTI, his lawyers and others.
Last week, the IHC had ordered Adiala officials to present the former Prime Minister before the court in relation to a plea deposited by the Mashal Yousafzai of Pti against the alleged refusal of the authorization to meet the founder of PTI.
