The High Court of Lahore (LHC) ordered the deputy commissioner (DC) of Lahore to make a decision at 5 p.m. concerning the request of Pakistan Tehreek-E-insaf (PTI) to hold a rally in Minar-E-Pakistan on 8 FEBRUARY.
Judge Farooq Haider, who chaired the hearing, criticized the authorities for postponing a decision, noting that PTI had submitted his request on January 29.
The court expressed concern about the feasibility of the rally preparations if the authorization was granted at the last minute.
During the procedure, the chief secretary of the Punjab appeared in court and ensured respect for his orders.
The Lahore DC presented a report explaining the delay, citing logistical challenges, including a Tri-Nation Series match. He said discussions were still underway regarding the approval of the rally.
The court pushed civil servants on the reasons why no decision had been made earlier.
“If a meeting is planned for tomorrow and the request is refused, what options will it have?” If the approval is granted, how can preparations be completed in a single day? Helped judge Haider.
PTI leaders argue that the delay or refusal of public rallies restricts their right to political expression.
Naqvi warns PTI against Jala’s outfit on February 8
Last week, the Minister of the Interior, Mohsin Naqvi, warned Pakistan Tehreek-e-insaf (PTI) of a strict action if she goes ahead with her demonstration scheduled for February 8 which coincides with the match Champions trophy planned in Lahore.
The PTI had decided to observe the Black Day on February 8 to protest against its “ stolen mandate ” in the general elections of last year and announced a plan to hold public gatherings in the field of Minar-E- Pakistan.
“The government will ask the PTI to reconsider its demonstration scheduled for February 8, but if the party refuses, the State will take the necessary measures,” said the Minister of the Interior during his visit to the Mega Passport Center on Peco Road in Lahore.
