Security forces in Kurram district have recovered a large cache of illegal weapons during a mine-clearing operation, and a supply convoy is expected to leave for Parachinar on Thursday, officials confirmed.

From January 19 to 21, a joint operation involving civil administration, police and security agencies was carried out in Baggan area.

Authorities said the operation uncovered illegal weapons, marking a crucial step toward lasting peace in the region.

Local elders and residents actively supported the operation by providing crucial information, highlighting the role of the community in combating criminal activities. Officials described the collaboration as vital to restoring order and removing threats from the region.

In accordance with a recently signed peace agreement, strict measures will be implemented against disbelievers without discrimination.

The district authorities stressed their commitment to maintaining law and order in Kurram.

The operation also included initiatives such as the renovation of mosques and a community-led clean-up campaign in Baggan, symbolizing cooperation between residents and authorities.

This growing trust between the local population and the Pakistani armed forces is considered the cornerstone of lasting peace.

Officials added that with the region stabilizing, the next phase will focus on restoring supply convoys and ensuring public safety.

Operation launched to bring peace to Kurram

Last week, law enforcement agencies launched an operation in Lower Kurram after a high-level meeting of the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government decided to take strict action against miscreants in the troubled district.

Peshawar officials said security forces would be present to help the police and civil administration in the operation against the miscreants. It was said that three sites in Kurram Bagan, Mandori and Chapéri would be cleaned during the operation.

Local people began moving to safer locations as authorities imposed a curfew in the Bagan area and mounted a search operation, days after a brutal attack on an aid convoy in which a certain number of people were kidnapped and six of them were subsequently killed.

Security forces receiving assistance from Kurram police surrounded four villages in Bagan and took up positions on the main highway.
