LAHORE:

Human rights lawyer Imaan Mazari said the recently approved 27th Amendment aims to make top positions acceptable for life and has further weakened an already fragile judicial structure.

Speaking at a town hall on political rights, she argued that the amendment had raised serious concerns about judicial independence, as every judge will now face the constant threat of transfer, thereby restricting the space for independent decision-making.

Imaan said it was essential to inform citizens about the implications of the amendment, noting that any judge who rules against the government could face consequences under the new arrangement.
