Islamabad:
The founding president of Pakistan Tehreek-E-insaf (PTI), Imran Khan, deposited a petition at the High Court of Islamabad (IHC), requesting the training of a medical advice including doctors from Shaukat Khanum Memorial Hospital (SKMCH) for his monthly health checks, invoking his weight concerns and the risk of multiple diseases.
The petition, deposited by the chief minister of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Ali Amin Gandapur, asks the court to order an immediate medical examination within three days as a provisional compensation.
He also requests guidelines for examination reports to be divided both with the court and the family of Imran until a final decision is made.
The advocacy maintains that the weight of Imran has dropped, which raises fears of the underlying medical conditions.
Meanwhile, according to KP lawyer, Shah Faisal, the two sisters of the incarcerated chief confirmed his notable weight loss, which they think could be a symptom of illness.
Addressing Express News, Faisal said that Imran was not currently authorized to meetings, adding that during a rare visit to his sisters, they observed a significant weight reduction.
“Weight loss is often a sign of an underlying disease. This is why the chief minister ordered the deposit of this Petition of the IHC to constitute a board of directors of doctors of Shaukat Khanum for his examination so that the diagnosis and treatment can begin. This is a question of fundamental human rights,” he said.
The request, submitted by the lawyer for chief minister Gandapur, lawyer Raja Zahoorul Hassan, underlines that Imran, 72, requires routine medical assessments. He notes that during his incarceration, his weight has decreased, which raises concerns about his health.
He also points out that SKMCH already has complete medical history of Imran and asks the court to authorize his medical team to carry out monthly exams and necessary tests.
