RAWALPINDI:
Former Prime Minister Imran Khan was allowed to call his sons – Kasim and Sulaiman – from Adial Prison in Rawalpindi on Eid. The jailed PTI founder spoke to his children, who live in the UK, for around 25-30 minutes.
According to sources, during the conversation, the sons inquired about their father’s health, while Imran expressed his happiness at being able to speak with them on the occasion of the celebrations.
The PTI founder was taken out of the compound to a special room for the call and, after the conversation, was brought back into the compound, sources added.
Imran Khan, detained since August 2023, has faced restrictions on meeting his family members and lawyers and on telephone calls to his sons since late last year.
Ahead of Eid on March 17, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, speaking to reporters outside Adiala Jail, said any official announcement regarding any protest movement against the government or negotiations with it would be made by opposition leaders in the National Assembly and Senate.
“[Mahmood Khan] Achakzai, along with Allama Raja Nasir Abbas, have been given the mandate to decide on protest and negotiation strategies,” Gohar said, adding that the party urged both leaders to use all available policy options.
Achakzai and Abbas were elected opposition leaders in the National Assembly and Senate respectively with the support of the PTI after the disqualification of their predecessors. They lead the PkMAP and MWM parties respectively.
Gohar rejected the impression that the internal problems were caused by the PTI founder’s sisters.
