Islamabad:
The PTI presented five requests to the government on Thursday, calling for a transparent legal process, the release of political prisoners, the media freedom, to immediate free elections and at the end of what it called “fascism” by abandoning politically motivated cases.
Addressing the media outside the High Court of Islamabad, the PTI chief, Babar Awan, stressed that the current affairs against party leaders and workers were to be subject to impartial trials.
He warned the government to “open his eyes” and put an end to what he described as “fascist practices”. Reiterating PTI’s position, he declared that selective justice undermines democracy and that true justice must be rapid, transparent and fair.
“The selected courts are used for selected cases. It is not justice,” he said, adding that the delay in the verdicts erodes the very principle of justice in a timely manner.
Awan demanded independent trials for political affairs, the release of all political prisoners, media freedom, immediate free and fair elections and the end of “fascist trends”.
“Seventy-five to eighty percent of the nation is held with Imran Khan. The government must wake up and end its fascist trends,” he said, adding that the cases of the City Model I and II have remained mired in prolonged delays.
Speaking on occasion, the head of the opposition of the National Assembly, Omar Ayub, accused the PML-N of endangering national sovereignty and of mistreating national security and economic issues. He said that each time the Shari family comes to power, the integrity of the country is threatened.
