The provincial Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has published an average flood alert for the Industry River in Chashma and Kalabagh, warning that a significant increase in water levels could cause floods in the surrounding areas.

According to a spokesperson for the PDMA, the water discharge in Chashma reached 378,000 brackets, while in Kalabagh, it is 413,000 Cusecases. The increase in water flow has prompted the authorities to issue alerts on the districts and departments concerned.

The director general of the PDMA, Irfan Kathia, ordered the assistant commissioners of the Sargodha and Dera Ghazi Khan divisions to remain on alert. Alerts have also been issued to the assistant commissioners of Mianwali, Bhakkar, Layyah, Kot Addu, Dera Ghazi Khan, Muzaffargarh and Rajanpur.

The PDMA asked the Civil Defense, the rescue 1122 and all the relevant institutions to take precautionary measures in advance. In addition, alerts have been sent to the departments of local government, agriculture, irrigation, health, forests, livestock and transport.

“All the necessary preparations must be carried out in accordance with the directives of the chief minister of Punjab,” said Kathia. He also ordered that the emergency control rooms remain in personnel and fully operational, and that the 1122 rescue reaction teams in the event of a disaster are placed on alert.

“Fuel stocks, including petrol and diesel for rescue operations, should be available in adequate quantities,” added Kathia, stressing the importance of an uninterrupted emergency intervention capacity.
