OnePlus is taking a big step toward bringing truly personal AI to your phone, and is using Google Gemini to make it happen. The company has confirmed a new integration for its existing Mind Space feature, turning your saved notes, thoughts, and personal context into something an AI can actually understand and use.
If it works as promised, your OnePlus could feel even more like a digital companion, building on the already brilliant Mind Space idea.
Speaking to Axel Metz, Editor-in-Chief of TechRadar Phones, Celina Shi, Marketing Director of OnePlus Europe, shared an exclusive statement outlining what the company is building with Google. Shi says the goal is simple: make AI truly personal by connecting Google’s flagship model directly to whatever you store in Mind Space.
“To maximize the potential of Mind Space, we have also partnered with Google to deeply integrate Mind Space with Google Gemini. This powerful integration allows Gemini to access the information you have saved in Mind Space and combine it with its advanced LLM and real-time Internet access, making it the industry’s first personalized AI with Gemini.
As someone who loves the idea of Mind Space – an AI-powered storage shelf, triggered by the More key, where you can contextually store any information on your device – this new integration from Google is incredibly exciting.
Judging from Shi’s comments, Gemini will be able to use your personal data in Mind Space to answer questions, help you plan things, and automate tasks based on your context, something that most AI assistants still struggle with today.
What is Mind Space trying to do?
Mind Space is OnePlus’ way of giving users a home for what’s floating around in their heads. Think about tasks, goals, reminders, and notes: you can save what’s important to you, and instead of letting it disappear into an app you forget, the phone should be able to do something meaningful with it.
With Gemini in the mix, the OnePlus 15 with OxygenOS 16 might figure out that you want to plan a birthday, finish a house project, or finally book a city break. It could help you search, write messages, create lists and manage details automatically. That’s the promise. It’s a big shift from AI that reacts to commands to AI that operates from context.
Whether this is exciting or invasive depends on how much you trust Google and OnePlus with your data. But that’s also where the industry is heading. AI makes a lot more sense when it knows exactly who you are, and the more information you give it, the better it gets.
The promise of OnePlus AI
OxygenOS 16 is OnePlus’ next big software breakthrough, and the company says it’s trying to advance AI beyond novelty.
The software update will debut on the OnePlus 15 and is built around a philosophy OnePlus calls “Intelligently Yours.” The idea is that the AI should adapt to you and not the other way around.
The company says this aims to make everyday life easier, unleash creativity, help you feel more organized, and keep everything secure. All this without slowing down the phone.
If that sounds familiar, it’s because every phone brand now says something similar. But the connection with Gemini is really interesting. Samsung also relies on Google, but OnePlus says this is the first time Gemini has connected directly to a personal storage system like Mind Space.
It makes sense for OnePlus to partner closely with Google. It doesn’t have the resources to build its own base model, but the company knows how to make features fast and lightweight, which has been its identity for a decade.
We’ll have to see how Mind Space and Gemini work together in practice. But it’s the most ambitious sign yet that OnePlus wants a seat at the table in the next wave of smartphone AI. If it succeeds, your OnePlus could soon feel more like an extension of the brain than a screen.
