- Intel has not dismissed 20,000 workers after all, but managers are at risk
- The CEO LIP-BU TAN also asked the teams to delete unnecessary meetings
- Workers must be at the office four days a week, against three
Despite recent rumors that he planned to dismiss thousands of workers, by reducing his workforce by about a fifth, Intel has not announced such measures in the most recent quarterly results.
However, not all jobs are safe, with the new CEO of the company, LIP-BU tan criticizing the existing and ineffective hierarchical structures and referring to future job cuts.
In an open letter to all employees of the company, Tan also confirmed that Intel would force workers to return to the office, adding that managers should remove unnecessary meetings to rationalize processes and stimulate productivity.
Intel workers are changing
“We are considered too slow, too complex and too much placed in our ways,” said Tan, after hearing customers. The new leader, who has been in office since March 18, 2025, revealed current plans focused on “the organization of the organization”, in particular the abolition of “organizational complexity”.
Tan has explained that many teams have a depth of eight or more layers and that constant upstream reports can slow the teams considerably. Intel leaders were responsible for “tak[ing] A new look at their respective organizations, “which is the company speaks for the abolition of some of the unnecessary strata.
“There is no way to get around the fact that these critical changes will reduce the size of our workforce,” added Tan. Santa Clara’s flea manufacturer had already dismissed 15,000 employees in August 2024.
In his memo to the staff, Tan also attracted the attendance to unproductive work and administrative meetings. “Too precious time is wasted,” he added.
The final change of Tan – the Great – is that workers will have to spend more time in the office. He described workers’ accession to existing three -day policy as “unequal”, involving the application of the law could be strict for the coming policy of four days for current work, which will come into force on September 1, 2025.
The news came while the company published flat quarterly income from the same period last year, at 12.7 billion dollars.
“I take rapid measures to generate better execution and operational efficiency while allowing our engineers to create excellent products,” the CEO said in a press release.
