Intel dominates the top of the PassMark performance-price rankings in a way that would have seemed improbable just a few years ago. Looking at the current rankings, Intel places seven processors in the top ten when performance is measured against price.
AMD takes the top two spots, but don’t be fooled. One is from an entry-level Ryzen 5 enjoying clearance pricing, while the other is an EPYC part listed at prices likely to come from the used or refurbished markets rather than new retail.
The Ryzen 5’s position reflects its low price rather than performance that rivals AMD’s new mid-range or high-end desktop processors.
Intel favored across a wide range of price points
Intel’s representation in the top ten is more consistent, with a mix of Core Ultra and older Core processors grouped closely together in terms of price efficiency without relying on clearance-level discounts.
This creates a ranking in which Intel performs well across a wide price range rather than through a few isolated bargains.
Further down the table, higher core-count AMD desktop processors lag behind on price, as their higher raw scores don’t translate into better value once price is taken into account.
Aside from discounted entries near the top, much of AMD’s mainstream desktop lineup lags behind Intel in performance per dollar.
This is important because PassMark’s chart mixes current retail processors with clearance-priced and non-standard listings, meaning not all high-ranking positions reflect what buyers will see when purchasing new parts.
Despite this, the overall trend remains clear, with Intel occupying most of the most profitable positions using current and widely available processors.
AMD’s strongest value comes from older or discounted products rather than its latest releases, limiting the broad application of these findings to new system releases.
For buyers focused on performance per dollar, PassMark data indicates that Intel offers more predictable value across its entire lineup.
AMD still competes at the top and in specific cases at a discount, but the balance of daily value now tips heavily in Team Blue’s favor.
