- The iOS 18.4 update seems to cause carplay users problems
- Symptoms include connection problems and missing dashboard information
- There is not yet a solid solution, aggravating the problem
Apple has just published iOS 18.4, which has made a number of changes to users of several of the best iPhones. Unfortunately, however, it seems that the change has made the Apple Carplay platform unusable for a certain number of people, providing a disturbance of the entertainment system in Apple’s car.
And according to several articles on X and Reddit, it seems that the problems are not limited to a particular aspect of Carplay. Instead, a wide range of problems seem to arise.
For example, the Nrein7 user published on Reddit to say that the dashboard of their car is no longer displayed information after update to iOS 18.4. Other redditors intervened to say that they were unable to connect their phone to their car first, while others have found that their iPhones would only connect when using certain USB ports, or are disconnected and reconnect several times over time.
We have contacted Apple to find out if this is a confirmed problem and update this story if we hear about a potential correction.
Not just a car brand
Bogues seem to affect users of different brands of cars and models, including Audi, Ford, Honda and Mazda. This suggests that the problem could reside with Carplay itself rather than the software of a specific car manufacturer. Indeed, a Reditor said that Volkswagen had told them that “Apple had to correct” to face, which implies that it was not due to the Volkswagen software. We contacted Apple to find out if this is the case.
Users said they have tried various methods to resolve the problem, including restarting their iPhones, odd and repairing them with their cars and restarting their vehicles. Some have found that these methods work, but for others, the problems have remained.
Whatever the exact nature of the problem, it is a frustrating problem to encounter, and for the moment, there is no confirmed correction. If you find yourself the victim of this Carplay accident, you may have to wait for Apple to deploy an update. The company has deployed the Beta iOS 18.5 version to the testers, and the full version should be published next month. I hope this provides a solution, if there is no corrective before.
