iOS 18.4 seems ready to bring a major overhaul to the way notifications work on your iPhone, and the best part is that we may not have to wait too long for the next update to arrive.
As the Verge reports, Apple published a candidate version of IOS 18.4 on March 24, noting that the stable version of the update is most likely on the way very soon. In particular, this beta iOS 18.4 version finally brings priority notifications to select Iphones, an Apple Intelligence functionality which automatically gives importance to important notifications by highlighting them on your locking screen.
Personally, I think this seems to be an excellent addition to the iPhone notification system – my phone is often blocked by all kinds of notifications, so having the most important has highlighted the second I reach my device seems to be a useful addition. However, you will need an iPhone 15 pro or more recent to access the Apple Intelligence (and therefore priority notifications).
The priority notifications were revealed for the first time in June 2024 alongside the announcement and the release of the iPhone 16 and iOS 18 series, but the functionality seems to have been the victim of the unusually disorderly launch of Apple Intelligence (see also the Siri update update).
A publication candidate version is, as its name suggests, a narrow version of a software update – literally a candidate for a stable version. We can consider the candidate for liberation as the intermediate stage between beta versions and the real thing. It therefore follows that priority notifications will be a key element of iOS 18.4 proper.
What comes with iOS 18.4?
As 9TO5MAC reports, iOS 18.4 will bring a handful of other software goodies to owners of the iPhone XS or more recent, the update encompassing all the best current iPhones.
Significantly, iOS 18.4 will bring Apple intelligences to the EU, ending a one -month blockage due to officially unknown causes.
In addition, the digitization functionality of the visual intelligence of Apple’s visual intelligence will go to the iPhone 15 Pro and the iPhone 15 Pro Max, after being exclusive to the iPhone 16 series.
The App Store will also obtain revision summaries generated by AI, while the image of image games will finally benefit from the sketch style promised during the launch.
In addition, the list of Apple Intelligence Supported will be extended in iOS 18.4. Newly supported languages include:
