A few minutes after the dismissal of McCaffery, he was reported by several points of sale, his son Connor, a former Iowa player, current assistant trainer of male basketball and boyfriend of Caitlin Clark, posted three Emoji of Clown on X.

Connor’s last two messages were the retweeter of a celebration post of his father reaching the mark of 200 victories at Iowa and two emoji of heart on a video of his father’s emotional interview after a victory over Rutgers in February.

Connor played for French at Iowa for six seasons of 2017-23.

During his six seasons, Connor played 166 games, which ranks second in the history of Iowa. He treated injuries throughout the majority of his university career, but a year of red shirt and a COVID-19 campaign allocated him six seasons of eligibility.

He reached the NCAA tournament in each of his complete seasons apart from his covid season. He collected an average of 4.5 points and three rebounds, and played 111 victories, equaling Jordan Bohannon for the most in the history of the program. His assistance ratio in turn back in a career of 3.59 (527 assists at 147 reversals) is the second best in the history of the NCAA.

Iowa is also the place where Connor met Clark when she played for the 2020-24 women’s team. The couple began to go out together in April 2023 after Clark led Iowa during a race for the NCAA title. Connor was a senior at the time and began his coach career after graduating.

Fran McCaffey will leave Iowa after leading the team at seven appearances of the NCAA tournament, passing in the second round four times, but never reaching the Sweet 16. The coach would have led eight NCAA tournament teams, the Pandemic COVVI-19 did not led to the cancellation of the 2020 tournament.

In 15 seasons as a Hawkeyes chief coach, McCaffery had a file of 297-207 and will leave the program as a leader of all time.
