Iranian FM to visit Pakistan in the middle of regional tensions

The Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Seyed Abbas Araghchi, will undertake a day visit on Monday in Pakistan, confirmed sources.

The Iranian Foreign Minister will be accompanied by a high -level delegation, with meetings provided in Islamabad, including a key session with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan, Ishaq Dar.

According to diplomatic sources, discussions will focus on bilateral links between Pakistan and Iran as well as on the current regional situation, in particular in the context of recent Pakistani-Indian tensions.

Following the conclusion of meetings in Islamabad, the Iranian delegation should leave for India on Tuesday as part of regional diplomatic awareness.

The visit comes in the middle of the growing tensions between India and Pakistan following a deadly attack at IIOJK on April 22, which left 26 dead. India has accused Pakistan of participating in the incident – an allegation that Islamabad denies firmly.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has already held separate telephone calls with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, expressing condolences on the recent terrorist attack and highlighting the need for a collective position against terrorism.

During his call with Sharif, he expressed his concern in the face of the increase in tensions and reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to regional stability.

Meanwhile, the Iranian Minister for Araghchi Foreign Affairs also spoke with the Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Muhammad Ishaq Dar, producing the preparation of Tehran to help facilitate dialogue between India and Pakistan to mitigate tensions.
