Islamabad:
Islamabad has exceeded major world cities, notably London, New York, Oslo, Sydney, Moscow, Toronto and Barcelona, in terms of security, according to the latest Numbbeo report.
The global security of Numbbeo I Islamabad 93rd class among 380 cities around the world, with a security index of 67.9.
In comparison, London with a score of 45.8 is classified 270th, Paris with 41.9 is classified 303rd, Berlin with 55.3 is placed in 187th, Moscow with 64.6 is 118th, while Lahore, with an index of 63.1, is located at 130th.
Previously, the United Nations also declared Islamabad a “family resort” for its staff.
An Islamabad police spokesperson credited the capital’s high security classification to the management of Inspector General Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, under which the force recorded notable successes and a marked decrease in crime in 2024 and 2025.
He said the drop in 2025 was due to effective police strategies and dedicated performance of all officers and staff. Compared to the previous year, the crime rate experienced a substantial drop of 20%.
Following the directives of the IGP Islamabad, a vigorous repression was launched against drug pedutors, alcohol sellers and their facilitators.
In 2025, street flight incidents dropped by 19%, theft and burglary decreased 12%and 74%respectively, the flight of vehicles and motorcycles dropped by 22%and murder cases decreased by 17%.
Overall, 600 less crimes were reported in 2025 compared to 2024.
In addition, as part of IGP initiatives, a special awareness campaign entitled “Nasha Ab Nahin” was launched to highlight the dangers of drugs on drugs.
