Islamabad drivers run against time while the license deadline is looming

Islamabad:

Thousands of Islamabad residents rushed to obtain driving licenses after the police announced strict sanctions for those taken by driving without one, which prompted the authorities to extend the deadline for compliance.

To manage the influx, the Islamabad traffic police announced that driving license services would now work 24 hours a day. Eleven facilitation centers have been installed throughout the city to relieve pressure on traffic offices, while mobile van is also deployed to treat licenses in different areas.

Active centers include the Faizabad traffic office, the F-6 Facilitation Center, Sawan Garden, Gulberg Green, the H-11 sector, Bani Gala, the G-11 DC Office sector and the G-14 sector. Additional offices were created at the Khanna police station, the diplomatic enclave and the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce.

In response to the sharp increase, Islamabad IGP Ali Nasir Rizvi extended the deadline until October 7, 2025. “On strong calls for citizens and for their convenience, the deadline has been extended,” Ricei to journalists told.

“Residents have to obtain their licenses by October 7. From October 8, measures will be taken against people found by driving without one. ”

The IGP had previously announced that from October 1, anyone driving a car or a motorcycle without a valid permit would be confronted with criminal accusations, detention with their vehicle and no deposit option. The warning sparked long queues in traffic offices across the capital.

“Following the IG announcement, driving license requests increased by 390%,” said SSP Hamza Humayun traffic. While many residents welcomed the application campaign, complaints were raised regarding high license fees. Citizens have urged the authorities to reduce the cost of requests.
