Islamabad:
Pakistan and Afghanistan have intensified their contacts while a new push to reset their links in longtime difficulty made significant progress, said officials here while foreign ministers in the two countries spoke on Sunday by telephone.
The last telephone conversation between Darrier Minister Ishaq Dar and the acting Afghan Minister for Foreign Affairs Amir Khan Muttaqi came a few days after Pakistan agreed to modernize diplomatic links with Kabul.
The acting Afghan government has welcomed Pakistan’s decision to appoint a full -time ambassador to Kabul, becoming the fourth country to do so.
China took the lead last year when she sent a full -time ambassador to Kabul and accepted a Taliban envoy to Beijing.
China has played a decisive role in the persuasion of Pakistan and Afghanistan to exchange ambassadors. The breakthrough occurred after the acting Taliban government has taken a series of measures to respond to Pakistan’s concerns concerning cross -border terrorist attacks.
Pakistani officials confirmed to L’Express PK Press Club that Kabul was moving for the first time against the elements, in particular the Afghan nationals who joined Pakistan of Tehreek-E-Taliban (TTP) or thought of being part of the group. Dozens of these Afghans were arrested as well as those who facilitate young people to join the ranks of TTP.
These steps encouraged Pakistan to increase interaction with the Afghan Taliban government. The decision was also important because India tried to exploit the tense relationship between Pakistan and Afghanistan to its advantage.
A statement published here by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the Minister of Foreign Affairs Muttaqi had praised Pakistan’s decision to grade his diplomatic relations at the ambassador and informed that Afghanistan had decided the same at the same time.
He described it as very positive development in bilateral relations.
The two leaders also examined the implementation of the decisions made during the visit of DPM / FM in Kabul on April 19, 2025 and promised to continue working together to establish mutual trust between the two frateral nations.
According to the two leaders, stressing the importance of the Uzbekistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan (UAP) railway line project for regional connectivity, the two leaders agreed to work closely for an early finalization of the framework agreement, according to the press release.
The Afghan Foreign Minister should soon visit Islamabad. It will be Muttaqi’s first visit to Pakistan in two years.
The links of Pakistan and Afghanistan have been tense since the Taliban’s return in August 2021.
