A video showing alleged police brutality against a husband and wife in Islamabad has surfaced online, prompting authorities to act quickly.
The footage, reportedly filmed by a local resident, appears to show members of the Dolphin Squad arresting a couple outside their home in Sector F-8 before physically assaulting them.
In the video, the man recording can be heard yelling at others to film the incident, saying the officers were hitting people for no reason and even hit one woman.
According to police sources, the altercation began after Dolphin Squad personnel stopped the couple to check ID cards, leading to a heated exchange.
Following the release of the video, Islamabad Inspector General of Police (IGP) Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi ordered immediate action and all police officers allegedly involved in the attack were suspended, a police spokesperson confirmed.
The IGP said the inappropriate behavior and physical mistreatment of citizens is intolerable, adding that strict departmental action has been initiated against those responsible.
On the instructions of the IGP, a formal investigation was initiated, while SSP Operations Qazi Ali Raza initiated an investigation into the incident.
Police said further action would be taken in light of the investigation’s findings.
