- Rumors suggest that a small electric van is in preparation
- The Skunkworks ” project has been set up to provide more affordable electric vehicles to the masses
- Ford will reveal more on August 11
Ford CEO Jim Farley, announced during a recent call for results that the company had to unveil plans for an affordable family of electric vehicles, referring to the planned event as a “moment of model T for us at Ford”.
Farley, who recorded to explain how good the competition of China is (it was famous by an Xiaomi SU7), explained that the company should double on its electric vehicle plans if it is to remain competitive in the future.
Consequently, Farley supervised the basics of a “Skunkworks” team last year which was brought to develop a low-cost electric vehicle platform that could underlie a series of new electrified and large-scale electrified models.
At the time, Ford lost up to $ 5.5 billion a year on electric vehicles, which includes the Ford F-150 Lightning collection, the Mustang Mach-E, the Explorer and the Capri and Puma Gen-E in slow sale on the European markets.
Alan Clarke, a former Tesla employee who was previously responsible for supervising the development of the Y model, would have been part of the 100 -people team who was responsible for introducing electric lithium phosphate electric vehicles that could compete with hooking from China.
Now Farley said the company planned to reveal the outcome of this work during an event in Kentucky on August 11, comparing the moment to the first Masse -Masse vehicle in Ford which opened its doors to the general public in the early 1900s.
What we can expect from Ford’s announcement
The initiates of the industry have suggested online that the new platform is likely to underline a smaller and more compact van which would offer a respectable range and impressive transport capacities, but costs less than the $ 54,780 F-15780 $ today.
Farley previously suggested that prices will be less than $ 30,000 (around £ 23,000 / 46,000 in) for the cheapest products from the next platform, according to Inside EVS, but did not go exactly what these products would be.
We can also expect to see an SUV making this list, because Ford does not currently sell the explorer or the Capri outside of Europe, because these two cars were a platform sharing exercise with Volkswagen.
Dig under the skin, and you will see that they share most of their games with the ID.4 with disappointing results, but this brand new Skunkworks platform would allow the company to have a greater control over an SUV that would appeal to the American market and could compete with a series of excellent models of Kia, Hyundai, Chevrolet and Tesla.
Finally, this new entirely electric platform could also underpin a second full-size electric van attempt which could not only undermine the current F-150 Lightning, but also cost much less than a R1T Rivian, Chevy Silverado EV and Tesla’s Failling Cybertruck.
