The National Assembly adopted Tuesday “the members of the Parliament (wages and allowances) (modification) of the 2025 bill”, approving a 200% increase in the wages and the advantages of the legislators.
The president of NA, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, led the session, where six new invoices were also introduced, in particular those concerning environmental protection and compulsory screening for thalassemia. These bills were referred to the relevant committees concerned for a more in -depth examination.
Under the bill of modification, the wages and allowances of the members of the Parliament were made equivalent to those of the federal secretaries. The monthly salary and the allowances for the AMNs and the senators have been set at RS519,000.
During the discussion, President Sadiq pointed out: “You call the false parliament and yet you do not take it seriously. If a member does not wish to accept the increased salary, he can provide a written declaration.”
Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar also said: “Members who do not wish to accept the increase in salary should inform the speaker’s office.”
Earlier this year, in a rare demonstration of unity, the legislators of the leader alliance led by PML-N supported a proposal from the PTI of Imran Khan to increase the wages of parliamentarians by 200 times.
Before the amendment, the members of the Parliament (MPS) obtained a salary of RS188,000, which included a basic salary of 150,000 rupees and RS38,000 allowances. After the proposed increase, wages and benefits of the benefits of deputies reach 519,000 rupees.
The adjustments of the wages and benefits of the deputies were traditionally made by changes to the members of the wages and compensation parliament. However, in the 2024-25 finance bill, the government has changed the law, delegating the authority for such modifications to the finance committee.
On January 20, the upper room of the Parliament adopted a bill from a private member aimed at empowering a parliamentary panel in matters linked to parliamentarians’s wages and allowances.
