It’s official: OnePlus abandons the alert cursor for an iPhone customizable button on the next OnePlus 13T, and although this phone is ready to go out exclusively in China on April 24, its new shortcut key will surely be a permanent feature of future OnePlus phones in the world.
The alert cursor has been a decisive characteristic of the best OnePlus phones, and longtime OnePlus fans will undoubtedly be sad to see it go, but OnePlus is categorical that its replacement – whatever it can be called on the ONEPLUS 13T – will ultimately improve the user experience.
Indeed, in its announcement on the next Switch, the CEO of OnePlus, Pete Lau, noted that the decision, although “not easy”, is “the right step forward” for the brand, and in an exclusive interview with Techradar in OnePlus HQ in Guangdong, China, the director of marketing produced senior of the company, Rudolf Xu, Lau.
“We want to give more freedom to our users, to [let them] personalize [that button]”Said Xu.” And in fact, it is not a withdrawal from the alert cursor. You now have the freedom to switch between the ring, vibrate and silence – these things are still working – but you also get greater freedom to customize your orders.
“For example, [you can now] Launch certain applications [using the new button]. So, it is actually not a withdrawal – it is an evolution of the alert cursor. »»
Xu added that OnePlus “also brought dedicated features” to the user experience via the new shortcut key, although it is not yet free to share what they are.
It is therefore clear that OnePlus does not see the deletion of the alert cursor as a loss – according to the brand, users only gain features from the switch to an action button style key. Please note that it does not mean that the company’s decision to chop long -standing feature has been easy.
In his aforementioned declaration, the CEO of OnePlus, Pete Lau, admitted that “the alert cursor has always been one of the [his] OnePlus favorite features “and” when the team has arrived for the first time [him] with a proposal to modify our alert cursor, [he] was skeptical.
“But I knew that if we wanted to build something really better, we had to make this jump,” said Lau. “As emblematic as it is, it’s a huge equipment just to change sound profile. It didn’t suit me.”
As for what the replacement of the OnePlus alert cursor looks like, the brand’s latest teaser video for the OnePlus 13T reveals a button the size of a rice grain which is alone on the left side of the device. By the way, the Apple action button is in the same place, although it is positioned above the volume buttons of the iPhone, where the volume buttons of OnePlus 13T seem to be placed on the right side of the phone, above the power button.
The video also reveals that the OnePlus 13T will include two main rear cameras stacked vertically to the iPhone 16, and OnePlus confirmed (via a post Weibo) that the phone will have a 6.32 inch screen and a 6,000 mAh and more battery.
The rumors’ specifications include a Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, 16 GB of RAM, a 50 MP camera and a 50 MP telephoto lens (with a 2x optical zoom), which, if it is true, would make oneplus 13T a compact compact alternative to the OnePlus 13.
