- Google confirms that Instagram for Android drains excessive battery power compared to similar applications
- The problem apparently lies in the standard Instagram application
- Google’s opinion urges users to solve the problem by updating their application
Do you think that the battery life of your Android smartphone has dropped faster than normal recently? The culprit may have been identified.
Noting the excessive battery leak in recent weeks, Android users on Reddit have speculated that the Instagram application is responsible. In comparisons of emptying batteries with other applications, Meta’s social media application seems to consume much more of their capacity than for the amount of use.
A Redditor, using a Samsung Galaxy A53, noticed that 54 minutes of Instagram screen time used 12.4% of their battery capacity, while 49 minutes of WhatsApp screen time used only 2.4%.
Google has now intervened to apparently confirm what many suspected. In an advisory article entitled “Battery pain on Android devices”, published on the Android support site, a Google community manager identified Instagram as the cause of said drainage and urged Android users to update their Instagram application immediately.
How to solve the Instagram battery problem
The latest version of the application at the time of writing (Build 382.0.0.49.84) seems to solve the problem, so if you have noticed that your smartphone loses battery power faster than expected, it is worth ensuring that you have downloaded this update.
Of course, there are many other ways to extend the life of your battery. These will put unused applications to sleep (access parameters> Battery> Boundaries of background use) to activating the preservation of the power supply or the use of the dark mode.
So, if you always encounter power problems after update (or if you don’t even use Instagram), see our guides below so that things are going to your Android phone as long as possible.
