Byu’s football player Jake Retzlaff is no longer a member of the football program. The move indicates the official start of its process of transferring to another school.
In an article on social networks on Friday, Retzlaff confirmed that he had made the “difficult decision” to withdraw and noted that he would go away “from the cougars football program.
“After many prayers, reflection and conversations with those I trust, I made the decision difficult to officially withdraw from Byu and the Byu football program,” said Retzlaff on Instagram on Friday.

“Byu said more for me than football. It was a place of growth – spiritually, mentally and physically. I am grateful to each teammate, coach, staff member and fan who supported me along the way.”
The BYU quarterrier, Jake Retzlaff, denies 2023 allegations of sexual assault in the legal response
The decision comes after a few tumultuous months which included Retzlaff appointed in a sexual assault trial. The prosecution was then rejected.

The quarter of a year has a year of eligibility. Since Retzlaff is just shy to graduate, he would probably be classified as a graduate student because he contributed in his last year of eligibility. It is also unlikely to enter the NCAA transfer portal. Retzlaff could rather leave Byu and register in another school.
At the end of June, ESPN reported that the Quarterrière intended to play elsewhere in 2025. At that time, Retzlaff would have already started to say to his coaches and his teammates in Byu that he was going to leave school.

Retzlaff would have faced a suspension for having violated the Code of Honor at the University, which is led by the Mormone Church, after having recognized a consensual sex in its defense against the trial.
Retzlaff launched for 2,947 yards and 20 affected with 12 interceptions last season while the cougars challenged for a place in the Big 12 championship match.
Byu coach Kalani Sitake saved the situation of Retzlaff to the Big 12 Media Days earlier this week, saying it was a private matter.
