- Audio-Technica ATH-ADX7000 features new 58mm HXDT drivers
- Aluminum magnesium alloy honeycomb construction
- Available from October 31, $3,499 (around £2,600 / AU$5,400)
Audio-Technica has unveiled its most advanced open-back headphone ever, the ATH-ADX7000. According to the company, they offer “a remarkably natural, spacious and comfortable premium listening experience.”
The new headphones feature the new HXDT driver design developed by the company, which allows Audio-Technica to manufacture larger drivers – 58mm in diameter – with precise concentricity for what the company describes as exceptionally clear and detailed music reproduction.
This speaker is positioned in its enclosure with “extreme precision” via Audio-Technica’s Core Mount technology, which places the speaker’s voice coil in the middle of the enclosure to provide very precise positioning, apparently.
Audio-Technica ATH-ADX7000: main features and prices
The earphones feature an open aluminum honeycomb design that delivers more efficient airflow, “articulate” bass and high-frequency purity. This construction, along with the magnesium alloy frame, means the headphones are very lightweight: just 270 grams with the Alcantara microfiber earcups, which increases only very slightly to 275 grams with the included velor earpads. And the magnesium alloy frame is there for practical reasons too: it helps dampen unwanted vibrations.
The ATH-ADX7000 comes with two detachable 3.0 m (9.8 ft) cables with A2DC (Audio Designed Insulated Cables) from Audio-Technica: a balanced cable with a 4-pin XLRM connector and an unbalanced cable with a 0.25 inch (6.3 mm) plug. Each ATH-ADX7000 is individually numbered and comes with a hard carrying case.
The ATH-ADX7000 will be available starting October 31 for a suggested retail price of $3,499. That’s around £2,600 / AU$5,400, so it’ll be just beyond the price of many of the best wired headphones – but these are designed for people with a serious amp setup to power them.
