Jason Momoa shares good news for ‘Minecraft’ fans

Jason Momoa Announces ‘A Minecraft Movie’ Sequel

Jason Momoa has some good news for Minecraft fans who have been waiting to hear what’s next for the Overworld block.

The actor confirmed that a sequel to A Minecraft movie is officially moving forward and will begin production very soon, bringing it back to a world that has clearly left a strong impression.

Momoa, who starred in the first film as professional gambler Garrett “The Garbage Man” Garrison, shared the update during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

Speaking openly about his excitement, he revealed how close the sequel was to getting off the ground.

“Very soon. Man. Bro, end of April. They’re there,” he said, adding that the new storyline had a big impact on him.

“The script is even better. It’s so good, I was laughing out loud. I haven’t laughed out loud in a very long time at a script. I was perplexed by the first script, this one, I’m laughing out loud.”

The sequel was first confirmed back in October, when Deadline reported that director Jared Hess will return to the helm A Minecraft 2 movieworking from a screenplay written by Hess and Chris Galletta.

The film is currently scheduled for release on July 23, 2027.

Hess has previously expressed excitement about continuing the story, especially after the first film’s record-breaking box office debut in April, which became Warner Bros.’ third largest opening of all time.

Reflecting on this success, Hess explained that the Minecraft universe still has a lot of room to explore.

He said the team had “so much fun making this movie”, noting that the game world was so large that many ideas were left untouched.

He added that returning for a sequel would be exciting, especially considering the positive fan response and the hidden tease in the end credits.

This tease included the introduction of another major character from the game.

As Hess confirmed, “It’s Steve (Jack Black) and Alex, and so that’s who we’ll bring to the table without a doubt.”

With production about to begin and the creative team fired up, Momoa’s update signals that the next Minecraft adventure is officially loaded.
