The first meeting will review drafting rules for appointing judges to the FCC; second to confirm three IHC judges
ISLAMABAD:
The constitutional body responsible for elevating judges to the higher judiciary will hold crucial meetings today to confirm the appointment of additional judges to two high courts as well as to formulate rules for the appointment of judges to the new Federal Constitutional Court (FCC).
The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) will meet in the conference hall of the Supreme Court building under the chairmanship of Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Yahya Afridi, who is also the Chairman of the JCP. The first meeting will be at 1:30 p.m., where members will consider developing rules for appointing judges to the FCC.
The second meeting, scheduled for 2 p.m., will deliberate on the confirmation of three additional judges of the Islamabad High Court (IHC). The judges considered include Justice Muhammad Azam Khan, Justice Muhammad Asif and Justice Inaam Ameen Minhas.
The third meeting will be held at 2:30 p.m., during which the JCP will consider the confirmation of two additional judges of the Balochistan High Court (BHC). The judges under review are Justice Muhammad Ayub Khan and Justice Najam Ud-Din Mengal.
The commission will discuss the procedure for conducting interviews with candidates before appointing judges to the higher judiciary.
