Jerry Jones is widely known for his business acumen and his polarizing, decades-long tenure as owner and general manager of the Dallas Cowboys.
But the 83-year-old recently showed off his acting chops by making an appearance in the critically acclaimed TV series “Landman.” Jones’ appearance drew rave reviews from the show’s star, actor and musician Billy Bob Thorton.
The episode featuring Jones became available for streaming in January. Jones portrayed himself, delivering an emotional dialogue about family.

“Now, I’m not saying I did anything right, but I decided a long time ago that I was going to work with my kids,” Jones said on the show, as transcribed by USA Today.

“And they’re involved in everything. They’re involved in my rentals, oil and gas, real estate. And so when I got the Cowboys, I did it so we could all work together. I thought I was doing it for them, but the one who got the most out of it was me.”

Thornton appeared on “Manningcast” Monday and applauded Jones’ acting skills.

“I wasn’t surprised, because he was telling his own story,” the Oscar winner said. “I mean, if the script had been written in such a way that he had to say every line, it might have been different. But he was actually telling his life story. If you just ask anyone, sit down and say it, they had tears in their eyes. I mean, he was very, very good. If you can get a non-actor to be himself, he’s better than actors.”
On the football field, Jones’ Cowboys suffered a 44-24 loss to the Denver Broncos on Sunday. The Arizona Cardinals host the Cowboys in Week 9.
