Jessie J revealed there was always a chance her cancer could return as she opened up about the emotional moment she shared with her mother after receiving her diagnosis.
The 37-year-old singer announced in June that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer and subsequently underwent a mastectomy followed by reconstructive surgery.
Although Jessie said she felt “very lucky” that her cancer was caught early, she admitted there was still a chance it could return.
The star also revealed that her mother was the first person she called after hearing the devastating news and shared the heartbreaking words she spoke to her at the time.
“I remember calling my mom first and I was like, ‘Well, I can’t die because I have Skye,'” Jessie said. ABC News.
Of her battle with cancer, Jessie said: “I was really lucky, super lucky, to find out so early.
“It wasn’t invasive, thank goodness. I know there’s a chance it could come back, but in the meantime we live our lives.
Jessie, who is now a mother of one, compared her cancer surgery experience to an episode of Black mirror.
The pop star explained that she hated being put under general anesthesia, admitting that the sensation reminded her of the strange and surreal scenarios depicted in the hit Netflix sci-fi series.
