Jhelum returns to normal after the mangla discharge

Islamabad / Muzaffarabad:

The water push in the Jhelum river calmed on Sunday as it was flowing into the Mangla dam, one day after entering Chakothi at Azad Jammu and cashmere (AJK) of the control line (LOC), officials said.

The water level in the Jhelum river was recorded at 25,166 Cuses – about three feet above normal. On Saturday, the level of the river increased by 7 to 8 feet after India released water in the river.

The deputy commissioner of the Mirpur district, AJK, said that the water influx in the Mangla dam had been recorded at 47,100 cuses, while the exit was 32,000 CUSCS. He added that there was still enough capacity to keep more water in the dam.

“There is still a serious shortage of water in the dam. The current water level is 1,130 feet, while the maximum capacity is 1,242 feet. This day last year, the water level was 1,144 feet,” he noted.

On Saturday, India, which had blown hot and cold after the operation of Pahalgam false drafs, experienced a brutal awakening of its high ambitions to block the water of Pakistan, rather releasing a sudden pushed in the Jhelum river in a panic crisis.

However, the sudden release sparked a high -level flood, causing fear and ravages among local communities overnight.

The Muzaffarabad administration declared an emergency of water while rising waters took residents off guard.

The Jhelum river winds from the district of Ananag in India illegally occupied the Jammu and the cashmere (iiojk) in Pakistan by Uri, Hattian Bala and Chakothi in Ajk.

The authorities warned the residents near the river to remain cautious and avoid venturing near the banks. A ban was also imposed on swimming and transporting livestock near the banks of the Mangla dam.

The head of the disaster management authority, Saeed Qureshi, said that the water level in the Jhelum river has decreased. “The water is three feet above normal in the river. The level also increases due to the melting of snow in the middle of the increasing temperature,” added Qureshi.
