The chief of Jamaat-E-Islami (JI), Hafiz Naeemur Rehman, announced his intention to observe a “dark day” on February 8, marking the anniversary of one year of the general elections which, according to JI, were fake.
The party called for national demonstrations, including one outside of the Pakistan Electoral Commission (ECP) in Karachi.
Speaking at a press conference in Karachi, Rehman said: “Ji will observe you [Black Day] On February 8 on the mandate stolen and faked the elections last year. Although Ji has not obtained any seat of the National Assembly, the party won two provincial seats in the Sindh and one in Balutchistan.
On January 20, the PTI of Imran Khan also called for demonstrations on the anniversary of the elections, with Khan leading the chief Minister of Khyber-Pakhtunkh of PTI, Ali Amin Gandapur, to direct caravans from all over the province to A public gathering in Peshawar.
PTI also asked permission to hold a rally in the Minar-E-Pakistan of Lahore, although the local administration has not yet granted approval.
The national elections, held on February 8 of last year, were spoiled by a closure of the network of mobile phones nationally and delayed results.
The opposition parties, including Ji and Imran Khan, Pakistan Tehreek-E-insaf (PTI), allegedly allegedly a generalized electoral manipulation. However, the Government of the Guardian and the ECP denied the accusations, explaining that the closure of the mobile network was a measure to maintain the law and the order.
Several international organizations, including the House of Representatives of the United States and European countries, have urged Pakistan to investigate the irregularities of the elections. However, Islamabad rejected calls to an official investigation.
The candidates of the PTI of Khan, prevented from contesting the elections of February 8 as a party, ran as independent and won the most seats. However, they failed the majority necessary to form a government, which was rather established by a coalition of rival political parties.
