On Sunday, the chief of Jamaat-E-Islami (JI), Hafiz Naeem Ur, announced Sunday the suspension of routine activities of the party to focus on a series of national demonstrations in support of the Palestinians in Gaza.
Speaking at a press conference in Lahore, Hafiz Naeem said: “Jamaat-E-Islami suspends all the normal activities today.”
He described a protest calendar, starting with country demonstrations on Friday, April 11. “On April 13, we will hold a step from Palestine to Karachi, and on April 20, we will walk towards the United States Embassy in Islamabad,” he added.
Hafiz Naeem said that a delegation of Pakistani parliamentarians would reach countries with Muslim majority, notably Türkiye, Iran, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia and Egypt to put pressure to break the Israeli Gaza blocking.
“There is a silence similar to a cemetery on the question of Palestine around the world,” he said. “The mask fell from the faces of the United States, the United Kingdom and Europe-the West is just as barbaric as it was during the dark ages.”
Hafiz Naeem also criticized the inaction of Muslim countries. “The Muslim nations have wrapped in a coverage of apathy. If they had shown an honor, maybe the atrocities in Gaza would not have occurred,” he said.
He concluded by reaffirming JI’s commitment to defending Palestinian rights. “We will raise this question with the government. Even during our last word with the Prime Minister, we drew attention to the massacre in Gaza,” he said.
