Islamabad:
The Jinnah Square project newly inaugurated in the Federal capital was criticized after a section of the road collapsed during the first monsoon rain of the season, exhibiting serious concerns concerning the quality of construction.
The road near Serena Chowk sold in just a few weeks after completion, causing a significant traffic disturbance and attracting public anger. The project of 4.2 billion rupees was completed in just 84 days and had been praised by the government as a rapid development model.
“This is a cruel joke on taxpayers. If a route of several billion rupees cannot resist a single rainy period, this reflects alarming negligence,” said a navetter on the site.
The assigned section, a loop connecting the G-5 to AABPARA, would have sank after precipitation, hindering traffic and raising security problems. Construction experts demanded an independent survey on the structural integrity of the project.
Capital Development Authority (CDA) teams began emergency repairs shortly after collapse. However, engineers and citizens have expressed serious doubts about the quality and monitoring of construction.
The public now urges Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the President of the ADC to launch an investigation and to hold those responsible for any negligence or professional fault.
