The dining goat is back.

Joey Chestnut returned to the Nathan Hot-Dogs restoration competition on Friday after being ineligible last year, and he was back as if he never left.

Chestnut shot 70.5 hot dogs and breads for his 17th title in his last 18 events (he lost against Matt Stonie in 2015).

Nathan hot dog restoration competition: Joey Chestnut goes to Coney Island as a big favorite

Chestnut killed 30 dogs in the first three minutes, already well in advance on his competitors, and he never looked back. He was of course the pace to beat his record of 76 dogs and breads within 10 minutes, lowering 46 in the first half of the competition.

He started to slow down, holding only 11 in the next two minutes, but he had already won the victory. For reference, he ate 58 hot dogs, the winning number last year, during the first seven and a half minutes. Now it was a prosecution for the record.

Fatigue has set up and failed his five record. However, it was the best performance of the event since he put the record in 2021. It was the seventh time that Chestnut fell in love with the brand 70.

It was the 20th appearance of Chestnut in the event, linking the record of all time.

The champion last year, Patrick Betoletti, finished with 46.5 dogs and breads.

Chestnut was not eligible to participate in last year’s event after having signed an agreement with Impossible Foods, a Nathan rival.

However, last month, Chestnut announced that he and the organizers had found common ground on sponsorship.

“I am delighted to go back to the famous Hot-Dogs restoration competition of Nathan July 4. This event means the world for me. It is a expensive tradition, a celebration of American culture and a large part of my life,” wrote Chestnut on X.

“Although I have and that I continue to associate myself with a variety of companies, some of which in plant spaces, these relationships have never been a conflict with my love for hot dogs. To be clear: Nathan’s is the only hot dog with whom I have ever worked.

“I respect that there were differences in interpretation, but I am grateful that we could find common ground. I am delighted to be back on the stage of CONEY Island, to do what I live to do and celebrate on July 4 with hot dogs in my hands! Stay hungry!”

Chestnut was obviously the crushing favorite to win everything – he set a world record eating popcorn in May.
