The quarter of Oklahoma Sooners, John Mateer, denied sports betting after screenshots of his Venmo account became viral on Monday evening.
The story of Venmo de Mateer was abolished on Tuesday, but alleged transactions made their way through social media. They were from the fall of 2022 while he was a first -year student in the state of Washington, and there was one who was referring to the USC and the UCLA.
The words “sports game” were used twice in the Memo of payments section.

Mateer published a statement on Tuesday, saying that he had nothing to do with sports betting.
“The allegations according to which I participated once in the sports game are false,” said Mateer on X. “My previous descriptions of Venmo did not precisely portray the transactions in question, but were rather inside the jokes between me and my friends. I never bet on sports. I understand the seriousness of the problem, but recognize that, withdrawn from the context, these Veno descriptions.

“I can assure my teammates, coaches and officials of the NCAA that I did not engage in any sports game.”
Oklahoma Athletics also published a statement on the issue, emphasizing “education continues to its students athletes, coaches and staff on questions related to sports games”.
“The department uses Prohibit, which is a standard industry service offering complete monitoring of sports game activities. Takes you seriously any allegation of play and works in close collaboration with the NCAA in all concerns.

“Or Athletics is not aware of any NCAA investigation and has no reason to believe that there is one waiting.”
According to the NCAA rules, a player found having bet on his own sport can lose up to a half-season of eligibility. In addition, a player who bet something involving his own team could face a permanent loss of eligibility for the NCAA.
This happened in 2023 when the ancient quarter of the state of Iowa, Hunter Dekkers, lost his eligibility because he put a bet on a cyclone match when he was the safeguard in 2021.
Mateer was transferred to the Sooners program after the 2024 season because he decided to follow the attacking coordinator of the former Washington State Ben Arbuckle in Oklahoma. Washington’s state was one of the best offenses in the country last season, with an average of 36.6 points per game.

Mateer harvested 3,139 yards and 29 affected for cougars, while leading the team to rush with 826 yards and 15 scores on the ground.
This was tied with Miami in Cam Ward, the first global choice of the NFL 2025 draft by the Tennessee Titans, for the most affected university football in 2024.
