The Epstein files sparked a debate about The view as Joy Behar explained the appearance of her name after Whoopi Goldberg clarified that she was never a friend of Jeffrey Epstein, but was put on the list due to a plane investigation.
The continued release of millions of pages linked to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein has brought renewed attention to the celebrity names mentioned in the documents.
On Thursday’s episode of The viewco-host Joy Behar explained why her name appears in the files, joining fellow panelist Goldberg to clarify the circumstances.
The 83-year-old told the audience that “the list has a lot of crazy names,” emphasizing that neither she nor Goldberg have been accused of wrongdoing.
“It’s almost a way of blurring the lines. So you say Whoopi is on the list and so am I, I think. We’re on the list because we were at a party or a wedding or something someone said. [else] could have been [at]“, explained Behar.
She recalls attending Donald Trump’s wedding to Marla Maples, speculating that Epstein might have been present.
“That means I’m not guilty, obviously, but these others, how are you going to decide who is guilty and who is not? It’s very delicate,” she added.
Goldberg, meanwhile, clarified that her name was revealed because of an email correspondence regarding the search for a private jet for a charity event in Monaco.
“If you look, you know why my name is there, because someone was looking for a plane and that’s what people do. They go to all the people who have private planes and ask them, ‘Do you have one?'” Goldberg said.
She stressed that she never boarded the plane and had no knowledge of the arrangement.
Earlier in the week, Goldberg explained that the emails referenced her trip to Julian Lennon’s White Feather Foundation event, noting, “He says, ‘Whoopi needs a plane to get to Monaco… Julian Lennon’s charity is paying for that.'”
Legal expert and co-host Sunny Hostin, a former federal prosecutor, added his perspective:
“There are a lot of people named on the list who may not have done anything wrong, but I think there are a lot of people on this list who are guilty of wrongdoing.”
