Judge Mansoor Ali Shah was sworn in on Monday as an acting chief in Pakistan. The oath ceremony took place at the Supreme Court of Pakistan, where the judge Munib Akhtar was sworn in.
The superior lawyers and the Supreme Court staff were present at the oath ceremony.
Judge Mansoor Ali Shah assumes the role in the absence of chief judge Yahya Afridi, who is on an official visit to China to attend the 20th conference of chief judges of the Supreme Courts of the OCS member states. The conference should take place in Hangzhou from April 22 to April 26.
During the visit, a memorandum of understanding (MOU) should be signed between the Supreme Court of Pakistan and the Supreme People’s Court of China.
The agreement aims to strengthen judicial cooperation, by emphasizing training, exchange of information and collaboration in various legal fields, in particular international commercial law, arbitration, cybercrime, financial crimes, climate change, judicial technology and dispute resolution.
The memorandum of understanding also seeks to improve legal aid in civil matters and to improve the application of judicial decisions. The two countries have reiterated their commitment to judicial independence and the rule of law.
